Baiju Raj M V is our Senior Wildlife Biologist and Managing Administrator of the Agra Bear Rescue Facility (ABRF), the largest captive bear holding facility in the world. Baiju has held a number of positions here at Wildlife SOS-India, including administrator of our reptile rescue program.
Baiju holds Master’s Degree in Marine Geology with a Diploma in Environmental Science from Mangalore University and a Bachelor’s Degree in Zoology from Kannur University.
The ABRF currently houses approximately 250 sloth bears, almost all of which are rescued former street dancing bears. Baiju also oversees operations for Elephant Haven, Wildlife SOS’s elephant conservation and rescue center near the Agra Bear Rescue Facility.
As mentioned, Baiju previously served as the Director of WSOS’s Reptile Rescue program, and as a professional herpetologist is considered one of India’s expert snake handlers. He is recognized as a skilled field biologist and naturalist capable of identifying both venomous and nonvenomous herpetiles native to the Indian Subcontinent.
Baiju has conducted aerial censuses of wildlife, employed GPS telemetry techniques and is trained to conduct a number of other field study investigation efforts using various tools, instrumentation and data collection programs in addition to his expert training in captive animal management.
